UPSL Announces Michigan Expansion with Detroit United

Detroit, MI-Based Pro Development Club Joins Midwest Conference for 2020 Season

February 18, 2020 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Detroit United as a member kicking off with the 2020 Spring Season.

Based in Wixom (Mich.), Detroit United is a registered non-profit organization in the State of Michigan. Detroit United will begin UPSL play in the Midwest Conference Michigan Division. The club will host its UPSL home games at Total Sport Complex (30990 Wixom Road, Wixom, MI 48393) in compliance with UPSL National Division standards.

United Premier Soccer League Michigan Division Manager Robert Brinkman said, "Detroit United has been at the top of every division they have every played in, and it's great to have the club as a member in the UPSL. Detroit United has lots talent and will be a great addition to the Michigan Division. We're excited to have Owner Beni Tetaj join us and be a part of this moving forward."

Detroit United has played in the Michigan Premier Soccer League (MPSL) since 2002. The club's first team now will compete exclusively in the UPSL.

Beni Tetaj is Owner and President of Detroit United. A native of Albania, Tetaj was a former amateur player and local business owner in Michigan.

"We chose the UPSL to give us a better soccer and a better future. We look forward to competing against the best Michigan teams in the UPSL this season," Tetaj said.

Nikolle 'Nick' Oroshi serves as Head Coach of Detroit United. Born in Kosovo, Oroshi is a graduate of Hamtramck (Mich.) High School.

The club will announce its upcoming game schedule.

Detroit United is an American Soccer club currently based in Wixom, Mich., and a new member of the United Premier Soccer League. Detroit United will begin play in the UPSL Midwest Conference.

Founded in 2002, Detroit United can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams nationwide. The UPSL is the largest Pro Development League in North America. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining UPSL National League minimum standards.

UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
